History and Hauntings:

Built in 1852, the Dorrington Hotel is one of the oldest structures along the Ebbetts Pass route, originally serving as a vital stagecoach stop and trading post for miners and travelers heading to the Calaveras Big Trees.

Its enduring log and timber construction has witnessed over 170 years of Sierra Nevada history, including logging booms and countless travelers.

This long and sometimes rough past fuels persistent tales of spectral residents. The most prominent legend centers on “Rebecca Dorrington,” possibly the wife or daughter of an early owner, whose spirit is said to remain.

Her apparition is reportedly seen wandering the second-floor hallway, often near Room 4, sometimes tidying up or adjusting items.

Guests and staff also describe hearing disembodied footsteps on the old wooden floors, doors creaking open or shut mysteriously, lights flickering, and inexplicable cold spots, particularly in the older sections of the building.
