History and Hauntings:

Constructed in 1881 as the grand private estate for wealthy San Francisco industrialist John Alexander Paxton, this elaborate, multi-gabled Victorian mansion has presided over the Dry Creek Valley for over 140 years.

Converted into a luxurious inn and acclaimed restaurant decades ago (and recently rebranded as The Madrona), its opulent interiors and sprawling grounds retain a strong sense of their Gilded Age origins.

This deep history has fostered persistent tales of spectral residents. The most frequently reported presence is that of a woman in Victorian dress, often believed to be Hannah Paxton, the original lady of the manor.

She is said to manifest particularly in Room 101 (one of the original master suites) or wander the second-floor hallways, perhaps still overseeing her domain.

Guests and staff also occasionally describe unexplained cold spots, faint disembodied whispers, or objects subtly moving on their own.
