History and Hauntings:

Launched in 1927, this authentic paddlewheel riverboat once navigated the Sacramento River, ferrying passengers between Sacramento and San Francisco alongside its sister ship, the Delta Queen.

During World War II, it served as a troop transport in the San Francisco Bay.

After decades of service followed by neglect and partial sinking, the Delta King was meticulously restored and permanently moored in Old Sacramento in the 1980s, becoming a unique hotel, restaurant, and theater venue.

Its long and varied history on the water seems to have left behind spectral passengers.

The most persistent legend involves the spirit of the boat’s first captain, occasionally seen walking the decks or observing performances from the theater balcony.

Guests and staff also report hearing disembodied voices, phantom footsteps echoing on the wooden planks, unexplained cold spots, and doors opening or closing seemingly on their own, suggesting the captain still keeps watch over his beloved vessel.
